False balance

Also called: Bothsidesism

Giving two positions equal space when the evidence strongly favours one.

How to spot it

Is a well-supported view presented as half of a fair fight with a weak one?

Example

“We invited one doctor and one person who dislikes doctors, to be fair.”

How to answer it

Fairness means weighing evidence, not splitting the time.
