Appeal to motive

Dismissing a claim because of what the speaker stands to gain from it.

How to spot it

Is the reply about why they say it, and not about whether it is true?

Example

“Of course the baker says bread is healthy. He sells it.”

How to answer it

Motive is a reason to check the evidence. It doesn't make the claim false.
